Royal Berkshire 2012 - home to Windsor Castle, Ascot and Newbury Racecourses and Dorney Rowing Lake


History

Berkshire is one of the oldest Counties in the UK, possibly dating from 840 or thereabouts. It has the epithet 'Royal' Berkshire as Windsor Castle is situated here. It has some of the loveliest Towns such as Eton and Windsor whilst at the same time, some of the worst industrial areas such as Slough. Windsor Great Park is a a vast expanse of open country with many grand views of the Castle. The River Thames provides much of its North border with Oxfordshire.

Berkshire is well placed with some excellent Attractions in itself - Windsor Castle, Legoland, Eton College as well as being in close proximity to London and the South Coast

News

Dorney Rowing lake, just outside Maidenhead is the London 2012 Olympic Rowing venue. This purpose-built lake, which is owned by Eton College has already been used for the European Rowing Championships will be the largest Olympic Venue outside London and with Rowing being a British strength there will be great interest in the Venue
